Garden Melodies: an evening Folk music amid the foliage

Folk Singer, conservationist, song collector and activist - Sam Lee has been called many things and on Sunday 15th June Homecoming is proud to call him our headline act.

Sam's voice has helped challenge what old songs hold for us today. With his latest critically acclaimed and Mojo Album of the Month ‘songdreaming’, he summons a truly compelling and emotional musical experience and we're excited to see what he does on our Field Stage.

On the night you will find a venue with a view of the ocean and in the heart of Heligan's regenerative farm - a covered performance area, licensed bar and kitchen with food cooked by our in house chefs using ingredients grown at home.

Our gates will open at 6 pm allowing attendees the opportunity to walk through our romantic gardens and enjoy food and drink beforehand - a truly Heligan experience rooting those attending with a sense of home.

As the sun sets on the solstice weekend, the Mercury-nominated artist brings a special performance to the magical setting of the forested amphitheatre at Thorington.

There could be no more wonderful setting for an evening with Sam Lee – whose work and craft are so infused with nature and folklore – than the idyllic woodland theatre at Thorington. Events there proceed whatever the weather, and while the trees offer some protection from sun and rain, it is exhilarating to experience music in such close connection with the natural world.

Sam – a former Snape residency artist and a much-loved member of the Britten Pears Arts family – will be coming straight from his Summer Solstice gig at Stonehenge, the perfect prelude to this light late evening of heart-warming music.

TAPESTRY Festival is a brand-new, free music festival taking place in the heart of Southampton on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July 2025. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the city’s medieval walls, the festival transforms Westquay Esplanade into a stage for outstanding live music, original commissions, and unforgettable performances.

Across two summer days, audiences can experience an inspiring mix of world-class artists and exceptional Southampton talent, brought together in a vibrant programme that draws on musical traditions from across the UK and beyond — echoing Southampton’s identity as a city shaped by movement, migration and exchange.

Alongside the music, visitors can enjoy food and drink from local vendors and explore everything the city centre has to offer – all just a short walk from Southampton Central Station.

Join us for TAPESTRY – a weekend of music that crosses borders, generations, and genres, right here in Southampton.

Set time to be announced

Historically, a successful harvest was celebrated with a delicious meal of local meats, vegetables, puddings, beer and ale, accompanied by singing, drinking games and community spirit. This would all have taken place before St Michael’s Mass, or Michaelmas, on the 29th September.

Sam Lee and Kings Place present their own harvest celebration, bringing in specialist speakers and musicians to present their thoughts and workshop on the idea of the important of local produce, seasonal growing and community.
